A warm welcome to the families served by
Spencer Family Funeral Home

Helping Families Connect, Honor & Remember

We offer unique opportunities for families to create healing moments after loss. Our experience, coupled with our perspective on the importance of ceremony, will help you discover ways to pay tribute. Whether traditional or unique, these tributes allow us to love, laugh, and live well again. Schedule a visit to see how we are different than our competitors. We are proud to offer a new and modern facility, built with your family's comfort in mind.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT IN REGARDS TO THE RECENT NEWS STORY:

We, Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, acquired the Spencer Funeral Home building through a federal bankruptcy auction in Nov. 2015 and took possession of the building in Mar. 2016. Since that point we have be working on plans to clear the building out and ready it for demolition, so we can rebuild an event hall on the same property.

In mid-October of 2017, the former owner of the funeral home died, and her family delivered several boxes to us that contained the cremated remains of those that had not been claimed by family members prior to the sale of the building. While it is unusual for the former owner to hold on to them for nearly 2 years, it is not unusual for a funeral home to be in possession of unclaimed cremated remains.

Once the unclaimed urns were given to us, we immediately called the Calhoun County Medical Examiner's office to inform them of the unclaimed urns. They instructed us to bring them to their offices housed at the Western Michigan University School of Medicine. We have delivered the urns to WMU and anyone who believes that their loved one's cremated remains were housed at Spencer Funeral Home should contact the Calhoun County Medical Examiner at 269-337-6173.

Please feel free to call us if you have any questions about this matter. We would be glad to chat with you.

Thanks,
